Annoying team or savvy marketers? From the Big Fat Marketing Blog

Tim Parry of the Big Fat Marketing Blog sees the Vikings going full-bore on the new purple shade of Favre mania:

"But as annoying as it is, it may be a very good marketing move for the Vikings… even if it seems the only people other than the team who are thrilled about Favre’s latest un-retirement are the team’s ownership, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, and Reebok.

It starts with the splash page, ends at the e-commerce store, and has plenty of All-Favre, All-The-Time content in the middle."

I'm republishing my comment on this article from his post below:

Given the money brought in by NFL merchandise, you have to give it to the Vikings for getting on the stick. They may only have 5-6 months to cash in on #4 jerseys before Favre retires and shows up on another team.

As far as Viking fans are concerned, my heart goes out to them and the 4 Super Bowl appearances that left them empty handed. For all the talk of the Chicago Cub drought, I’ll wager there’s more than enough Purple People Eaters who’d be willing to trade the farm in on a trophy and parade across the Twin Cities.

And I think the markets of the NFL Central have to like the attention they’ll be getting from a suddenly having 3 very high profile QB’s with Cutler in Chicago, Favre in Minnesota and of course Rodgers in Green Bay.

I'm not a huge football fan, but from what I hear, the Vikings were a pretty good team already. Having Farve may make them even better if he stays healthy.
