Anybody can take a picture or start a blog or begin a Facebook page. Take a good look around the Inter-webs and you'll find plenty. But now and again, as I wander around the tubes I find some pretty outstanding work that seems to fall below the radar. So here are some Props to a Blog that gets it right, ForkBombr.net.
Stephen Hackett's is not your ordinary blogger. The Memphis native is a photographer, blogger, a local Apple-Authorized technician, a freelance web designer, an Internet Journalist a father and husband, and he digs old Macs.
Oh yeah, and he's 23. I now feel guilty about sleeping in this morning.
Here's how the first paragraph of his profile reads:
"My name is Stephen Hackett. I live in Memphis, Tenn. I married my high-school sweetheart, and we have a cat and a little baby boy. I drive a Honda Element, she drives a Civic. The cat doesn’t have a car."
I knew I had to talk to this guy.
Stephen started ForkBombr.net after finishing a stint as Lead Genius at a local Apple Retail store. Since folks at Apple seem to frown on employees talking to the tubes, Hackett seems to have wasted little time after he got out of their shadow.
In addition to talking about his passion for tech, he posts his photography daily Flickr. And I mean daily. Beginning January 1st 2008, Hackett started what he calls "Project 365." A simple process, really - Take one picture every day and post it online. But to stick with it day in and day out takes serious dedication and commitment that would make my Facebook update status page blush.
ForkBombr.net is less than a year old, but already looking like a site well on in years and hitting its stride. Stephen was kind enough to grant an interview and in the coming days I'll be posting excerpts in audio and print of that conversation here and on my Tumblr site, Cornfedtech Weekend(er).
Considering his background with Macs, I wanted to get his take on some of the new Apple hardware released last week. You can hear the audio on Cornfedtech.com Weekend #1 on the Weekend(er) page via the embedded flash player.
You can find Stephen on ForkBombr.net, and follow him on Twitter.
Enjoy and Stay tuned!
